About the Lower School

The Lower School, comprised of grades K-5, provides an enriched college preparatory curriculum within a structured framework.

There are three sections on each grade level with grades K, 1, and 2 being self-contained and grades 3,4,5 being semi-departmentalized. There are two certified teachers in each kindergarten and first grade class. Class offerings also include Physical Education, Spanish, Music, Art, Computer Lab, and Library. The Lower School students attend chapel once a week. In addition to these highly experienced and innovative teachers, the Lower School has a Learning Specialist and a nurse. Porter-Gaud uses the clinical counseling model led by a full time counselor for the Lower School. The principal oversees the operation of the Lower School and its programs.

Lower school students

Students meet daily challenges of mind, body, and spirit through critical-thinking and problem-solving activities, development of physical fitness, realization of spiritual awareness and character development. Each homeroom class begins the day with a class meeting.
