Students will develop confidence, respect, and character

Porter-Gaud’s athletic program strives to produce a well-rounded student athlete. We believe that through positively directed athletic participation, students will develop the confidence, respect, character and honor needed to prepare them for a successful adult life.

Departmental Goals

  • To maintain a sense of balance between athletics and the academic demands of the school.
  • To insure the athletes are given every opportunity to succeed by providing them with excellent equipment, a safe playing environment and quality coaching.
  • To teach the importance of good sportsmanship and ethical integrity for athletes, coaches and spectators.

Bantam

Team and individual skills are introduced to the student athletes for the first time. Emphasis is placed on development and participation. All team members must play in all games.

Junior Varsity

Team and individual skills are sharpened in preparation for the jump to a varsity schedule that is more competitive and demanding. Playing time is at the discretion of the coach but a concerted effort should be made to play all suited out athletes.

Varsity

The emphasis is to field the best team possible. Maturity and skill level of the student athlete are key ingredients for varsity players. At this level there are no guarantees of playing time.
