Porter-Gaud Raises Almost $7,000 for the American Cancer Society Through Relay for Life (VIDEO)

Porter-Gaud hosted its first Relay for Life on Friday night and raised almost $7,000 for The American Cancer Society. Around 300 students, faculty, and parents participated in the event organized by Director of Community Service Gretchen Tate and her service leaders. While Porter-Gaud participates in Relay for Life each year, this marks the first time we have hosted an event. The entire track was lined with more than 450 luminarias, each representing someone connected to our School Family who has been affected by this terrible disease.

    Juniors Bond at Hunting Island

The 11th grade spent 2 days near Beaufort at Hunting Island State Park. With beautiful campsites located right next to the beach, Moe’s catering our dinner (so we really did not suffer too much), and Mother Nature providing an incredibly beautiful day for the beach, it was awesome! The students played beach soccer & touch football, tossed the Frisbee, soaked up the sun, went for walks, went for a (slightly cool) swim, and just hung out with classmates.

Fifth Graders Studying Body Systems Through Both Virtual and Actual Dissections

The 5th grade students culminated a body systems unit with frog dissection! The students started the unit by learning about the circulatory system, respiratory system, reproductive system, muscular system, skeletal system, and digestive system. After in-depth studies of each system, the students practiced dissection on their iPads with the Frog Dissection app. Then, finally, the students explored the systems that they studied by dissecting a leopard frog. This is excellent preparation for doing comparative dissections with invertebrates in 6th grade science.
