Carpool and Dismissal Procedures

Dear Porter-Gaud Families,

Thank you for your partnership in helping us ensure a safe and orderly carpool process. While the first few days of any new school year are naturally slower, traffic flow and timing consistently improve over the coming weeks as everyone becomes familiar with the routine.

To further enhance the safety and efficiency of carpool, we kindly ask that you take a moment to review these important reminders prior to the first day of school:

Lower School

Carpool Route: Please use the stadium loop for morning and afternoon carpool, which will bring you to the right-hand lane of Albemarle Road and directly into the Lower School carpool line, helping you avoid the Middle and Upper School carpool traffic. Safety and Drop-Off: For safety, we ask that parents drop students off on the passenger side of the vehicle. Having backpacks and water bottles ready in advance allows teachers to assist students out of vehicles efficiently.
Exiting: After drop off and pick up, proceed around the loop, past the practice fields, and exit at Albemarle Road.
Siblings: Middle and Upper School students with Lower School siblings may be dropped off and picked up in the Lower School loop.
Extended Day: Pick-up for Extended Day and enrichment activities will take place in the Lower School loop.

Middle and Upper School

Route: Click here to watch a video detailing the Middle and Upper School carpool route for this year. As with last year, carpool traffic should stage in the left-hand lane of Albemarle Road and turn left into the Upper School Faculty and Staff parking lot (#26 on the campus map). Please do not drop off students in the street, in the Upper School parking lot, or in any surrounding business parking lots.
Drop-Off and Pick-Up: Proceed straight through the open double gates toward the Science and Technology building. Stay to the right and pull forward as far as possible. Students will be dropped off and picked up along the right-side curb.
Exiting: After drop-off or pick-up, proceed to the exit gates and turn right. To prevent severe traffic congestion, please do not attempt left turns during peak carpool hours.
Arrival Times: Due to the limited space we have available, we kindly ask that you do not arrive before 3 p.m. for Middle School carpool or before 3:15 p.m. for Upper School carpool. Showing up too early causes congestion on the roadways around campus. Thank you for understanding.
Pedestrians: All pedestrians must use the designated crosswalk on Albemarle Road in front of the Chapel.
Bikers: The bike rack previously located by Tyler Hall has been moved to the area next to the Upper School.
