Our Libraries

Porter-Gaud libraries are dedicated to promoting academic excellence and enriching the intellectual pursuits of our students. The libraries provide a quality collection of resources which both supports and complements the school curriculum.

The Porter-Gaud library collection totals more than 26,000 volumes, and includes reference books and materials, periodicals, newspapers, online subscription databases, archives, and video collections. Students have access to networked high-speed broadband computers, wireless capability for laptops, printers, and copy machines to use in the libraries. An overhead-mounted digital projection and multi-media system is used for student and faculty activities. The Upper School has a new library serving grades 9-12. The Norman laCour Olsen Library supports Middle School grades 5 through 8. The Florence Victoria McBride Richardson Library supports the Lower School, grades 1 through 4.

The Middle School Library is named after Dr. Norman laCour Olsen who was a trustee of Porter-Gaud School from 1987-1994, and the father of three Porter-Gaud alums. Dr. Olsen was an esteemed scholar who took a special interest in literature.

The Lower School Library is named after Florence Victoria McBride Richardson who served as Lower School Librarian from 1974-1992. Florence and her husband Ted Richardson are fondly remembered as being an integral part of Porter-Gaud School since the time of the Porter Military Academy.
