Lower School Application Process FAQs
1. How can I register my child for a Shadow Day?
Rising first graders and their parent(s) are invited to attend the First Grade Preview on January 17 in lieu of a shadow day. Please use this link to register for this event. Parents of children applying for the rising 2nd-4th grades should call Admission Assistant Kathleen Beck at (843) 402-4726 to schedule a shadow day for their child.
2. How can I register for admission testing?
Here is a link to register your child for testing on either Saturday, January 19 or Saturday, February 2.
3. How do I submit an online application?
4. What if my child's enrollment to Porter-Gaud depends on receiving financial aid?
If your child’s enrollment will depend upon financial aid, please note that there is a separate application for financial aid. The deadline for applying for Porter-Gaud's need-based financial aid program is February 1. Here is a link to the application for financial aid. You may complete the online form using your 2017 tax information. If you have any questions about the financial aid process, please contact Margie Stanbrook, Porter-Gaud's Director of Financial Aid, at (843) 402-4681.
5. I've heard about an application checklist? What is it?
The online "application checklist" is an itemized list of materials required to be submitted prior to February 8 as part of your child's application. The checklist allows you to track application materials that have been received and those which are still outstanding. It may be accessed online after the application for admission and the application fee are submitted and processed (which may take up to 1 business day).
6. How do I access the application checklist?
After the application for admission and the application fee are submitted and processed, please log into the Parent Portal using the same log-in you created when beginning your child's application. Then click on 'View Checklist'.
7. When and how should I request the Teacher Recommendation?
From the application checklist, click on the "Send Request" button, then enter the teacher's email address. Our specific form will be sent to that teacher electronically. Once the teacher submits the recommendation via email, the system automatically checks it off on the checklist.
8. What else can I do from the checklist?
You may also download the Release of Records Form, print it, fill it out, and then take it to your child's school. This form authorizes the school to share a copy of your child's transcripts with Porter-Gaud. Because we require transcripts to include report cards for both the 1st and 2nd quarters (i.e., the first full semester) of this school year, please wait to take the Release of Records Form to your child's school until early January.
Admission and financial aid decisions will be announced by phone and e-mail on Friday, March 8. We would love to have the pleasure of welcoming your child to Porter-Gaud!
