Every Thursday, eighth graders Paulo Hitopoulos, Leo Li, and Ethan Lehrman pack up their chess kits and head to Memminger Elementary. Waiting for them in the library are 20 first, second, and third graders. The boys conduct chess class and matches from 3:30-4:45 p.m each week. Recently, the boys even went on PG's parent-teacher conference day because they didn't want to disappoint the kids.
The Memminger students are just learning the game, but are eager to play each week. Paulo, Leo and Ethan say the experience reminds them of when they were in the Lower School chess club. They enjoy planning each class, spending time with the kids, and watching the kids' skill levels grow.
