The purpose of this day is to increase awareness and understanding of the complex issue of food security for all and the importance of sharing with those who are hungry. Our entire school observes this event by participating in a food collection for local people who are in need. The food is distributed to people in need on James, Johns, and Wadmalaw Islands by our staff at Our Lady of Mercy Community Outreach Center. They have counted on our generous school community to fill their food pantry each Fall for over 20 years. Collection boxes will be available in each classroom to collect food by Monday morning. We are asking each grade to bring in a specific food item. Grade 9: Fruit Juice Grade 10: Peanut Butter Grade 11: Soup Grade 12: Beef Stew & Canned Meats Thank you in advance for your contribution. Your support allows our school to be a part of a national effort to collect food for those in need. We will also share a surplus of food donations with organizations that are supporting the rescue and recovery efforts in areas impacted by Hurricane Helene. Sincerely, Your Food Distribution Service Leaders: Mac Grubb, Ellis Applegate, & Elizabeth Kulka Thursday - In honor of World Homeless Day on October 10th and our visiting speaker at chapel this week, Dr. Marion Platt, we will host a charitable snack sale for Star Gospel Mission at 11:20 outside Ms. Tate's office. Advisory Pop Tab CompetitionThe advisory pop tab competition is back! This school year there will be two winners--one per semester-- and the advisory that has collected the most pop tabs by December will earn their reward. These pop tabs will be donated to the Ronald McDonald House, which will then be recycled in exchange for money. This raises thousands of dollars for the RMDH each year! The Ronald McDonald House provides economic aid and housing for families with critically ill children. If you have any questions feel free to contact Jane McClary. Thank you!
