Senior Day of Caring
On Monday, August 26, Porter-Gaud seniors will participate in the 16th Annual Senior Day of Caring, which aims to help communities across the Lowcountry in a direct and tangible way. We will begin the day by packaging 25,000 meal kits for local food banks in partnership with Harvest Pack, a Minneapolis-based food aid nonprofit. After lunch, we will work with different organizations throughout the community, including Water Mission, Teachers Supply Closet, James Island Outreach Center, Pet Helpers Animal Shelter, Our Lady of Mercy Outreach Center, Charleston Habitat for Humanity, Fisher House, Charleston Area Therapeutic Riding, Hallie Hill Animal Sanctuary, and Charleston Area Senior Center. A copy of the schedule is included below: Schedule
To participate, all students must complete a Porter-Gaud permission slip and a transportation permission slip. Both forms can be found in MyPG. Permission slips are due by Friday, August 23. All students should wear clothes that can get dirty, a PG spirit shirt, and closed-toed shoes and need to bring money for lunch and a reusable water bottle. We also ask students to arrange carpool rides to their afternoon projects, where they will meet their PG chaperones. Please remember the importance of driving safely and practicing safety while volunteering. If you have any questions, please contact me at gtate@portergaud.edu. Thank you so much for helping to make this happen! Sincerely, Gretchen Tate, Director of Community Service |
