Supplement Classes Spring Semester

JAMES ISLAND SPRING SUPPLEMENT CLASSES 2024

In addition to the preschool curriculum, there are two semesters of “supplements” offered after preschool and kindergarten hours. These extracurricular classes are: Soccer, Gifted Minds, Yoga, Karate, Tumble Time, Dance, Super Sports, and Wee Little Arts. The Spring Semester is offered to 2K-5K children.

Important Dates:

Online registration opens: Monday, December 4th, at 8am

Online registration closes: Friday, December 15th, at 6pm

Spring supplement start date: Tuesday, January 16th

Spring supplement end date: Friday, April 19th

Spring supplement make-up week: April 22nd-26th (For when an instructor cancels class or emergency school closing occurs, not student missed classes.)

Supplement Registration Fees are non-refundable.

Please double check the registration key below to make sure you are signing up your child for the correct time of each supplement.

ONLINE REGISTRATION:

The school will be using the CampBrain registration platform. Parents will need to create a new account during registration unless a previous CampBrain account has been set-up for children enrolled at Porter-Gaud or O'Quinn. Please check back starting Monday, December 4, at 8 am to access the link to register. Classes are filled on a first come, first serve basis; a waitlist will be offered as needed.

Registration Key:

AM: Children enrolled in the morning program (8:15 am-11:30 am). Pickup is after the supplement class is over at 12:30.
EH: Children enrolled in the Extended Hours program (7 am - 6 pm).
EH: Nap is from 12:30-2:30 (3's and 4's can miss part of their nap).
DISC: Children enrolled in the Discovery program may take supplements after 3:15.

Online registration will open at 8 am on Monday, December 4th. Due to DSS regulations, a DSS form 2930 must be completed for each child participating in supplement classes. The forms are available on line during registration. Please check back on Monday, December 4th, to access the link to register.

Soccer

Soccer: $220 Open to 3K and 4K (10 classes)

Jackson Soccer Development brings a fresh perspective to teaching children about the game of soccer. This is a high energy class filled with exciting twists on skill development. Emphasis is placed on building character through teamwork and spirited competition. Non-stop action and fun are guaranteed in each uniquely designed session.

Attire: Athletic clothing and closed toe shoes requested. No cleats or shin guards needed. Training shirts are available for an additional charge.

Gifted Minds

Gifted Minds Full STEAM ahead: $250 Open 3K, 4K, and 5K (10 classes)

This class is offered at the following times for the specific age group:

11:45-12:30: 3K AM and 4K AM (No EH students)
12:45-1:30: 3K EH (Children will miss part of nap; no Discovery)
2:30-3:15: 5K
3:30-4:15: 4K EH and Discovery

Lowcountry Gifted Minds offers unique and exciting STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math) sessions where children explore, build, create, imagine, discover, and have FUN! Children learn through hands-on, interactive activities specially designed for Preschoolers ages 3-6. We nurture your child's curiosity with exciting lessons that use age-appropriate lab equipment. Your child will beg to stay in our STEAM class! The all-new units include experiments on Sound, Energy, Electricity, Coding, Engineering, Plants, Animals, Oceans, and Weather. Certified teachers teach sessions. Each semester is different so that children can attend all year.

Instructors are certified, passionate educators. Winner of two Charleston's Choice Awards: Summer Camp and Tutoring.

Karate: $210 Open to 4K and 5K (12 classes)

This class is offered at the following times for the specified age group:

1:45-2:30: 4K EH only (No Discovery)
2:30-3:15: 5K
3:30-4:15: Discovery

David and Anne Pettus, owners of the School of Empty Hand Art, will open the world of karate to children while exercising their minds and bodies. “Focus” and “discipline” are buzz-words you will hear in class. Students will learn about appropriate karate behavior to use in and out of class. They introduce the basic fundamentals of karate through movements, games and drills. Reinforcement of healthy habits and positive character development. Fun and safe!

Karate t-shirts and pants are available for sale if desired.

Little Yoga Sprouts of Charleston

Little Yoga Sprouts of Charleston: $225 Open to 2K, 3K and 4K (12 classes)

This class is offered at the following times for the specified age group:

11:45-12:30: 2K AM, 3K AM, and 4K AM
12:35-1:20: 3K EH and 4K EH (Children will miss part of nap; no Discovery)

Your child will giggle, sing, hop, skip, and jump while learning playful and gentle yoga poses that 1. increase flexibility 2. promote confidence and 3. develop focus and balance. Scarves, yoga balls, songs and games will capture the imagination of your child and create an environment of learning and laughter. Little yoga students love it all, especially the quiet mindfulness minute that takes place at the end of class while children rest peacefully on their mats. Little Yoga Sprouts of Charleston plants the seed for a lifetime of healthy habits. (Children must be fully potty-trained.)

Alice has a Master's degree in education. She is a certified Children’s Yoga Instructor and is a Yoga Alliance 200 hr. yoga instructor. She’s a children's book author/illustrator and yoga enthusiast.

Miss Heidi's Tumble Time: $280 Open to 2K, 3K, 4K, and 5K (13 classes)

Tumble Time is an exciting combination of gymnastics, coordination, and basic body movement incorporated with rhymes and music specifically for children 2 to 5 years old. Children are taught gymnastics skills in progression on junior-sized Olympic style equipment. Trophies awarded at the end of the session!

Owner/instructor Heidi Davidson has specialized in instructing preschool gymnastics for over 25 years. She is USAG safety certified and a nationally recognized Kinder Accredited Instructor.

Dancing Stars by Stretch-n-Grow is a developmental dance class for boys and girls incorporating ballet technique, posture, balance, gross and fine motor development, flexibility, grace, poise and FUN! The class is designed to give our little ones a foundation for jazz and ballet! Our recital theme is "Under the Sea"!

It's the wide world of sports! This class is perfect for active boys and girls ages 2 to 6! In Super Sports class, children learn and play multiple sports throughout the school year! We emphasize how much fun playing sports and staying fit can be. Each week's activities are new as we throw, catch, run, jump, kick, use our imaginations, exercise, and learn to love the games!! Some of the sports we will coach include: lacrosse, basketball, baseball, volleyball, track and field, football, and more! We will build the motor skill foundation your little athletes need to compete as they grow!

Wee Little Arts

Wee Little Arts is a visual arts curriculum for young children, that has been going strong for 20 years! During 2nd semester, students are introduced to a range of painting techniques, both representational and abstract, and a variety of materials while creating work based on their imagination and environment. The creation of mixed-media pieces will also be explored, ensuring some exceptional work! Furthermore, in this session, students will use a modeling material to transition from working in two dimensions to create three-dimensional projects. Physical manipulation of the modeling material introduces advanced spatial relationship and motor skills. Other materials may be used as students create their own sculptures to encourage greater understanding of height, width, depth and texture.
